Gedikpaşa Hamamı
Gedik Ahmed Pasha, a commander under Mehmed II, had this hammam built in 1475 near the Grand Bazaar, with separate men's and women's sections under domed marble rooms. A do-it-yourself ticket lets you wash on the hot marble without a therapist.

About Gedikpaşa Hamamı
The hammam was damaged in Istanbul fires of 1588 and 1660, and again in 1725, 1752 and 1865. The street outside has risen over the centuries, so the men's door now sits below it and stone steps lead down to the forecourt. The men's changing hall is a square room under a 14.65 m dome with a lantern at its top. In the hot room an octagonal marble navel stone lies under a 6.45 m dome, ringed by three iwans and four private cells, and the floors carry borders of green and red porphyry.
