Pont du Galetas

A beach on the Aiguines bank of the Lac de Sainte-Croix, where the Verdon leaves its gorge under the Galetas bridge. Hired pedalos, canoes and electric boats can go up the gorge as far as a line of yellow buoys; above it the river is protected for the apron, an endangered fish.

Getting in

Access
The Galetas beach has a lifeguarded swimming zone in July and August, supervised from 11:00 to 18:00. The Parc du Verdon notes that the reservoir's level varies, so unmarked rocks and shallows can appear, that eroded banks and cliffs can collapse, and that banks are slippery with muddy bottoms. Water-bombing aircraft may scoop water anywhere on the lake; the park asks swimmers to get to the nearest bank when one passes overhead. The municipal Galetas campsite next to the beach has been closed since May 2026 for safety works; the beach itself is not affected. Boats may go up the gorge from the Galetas bridge only as far as a line of yellow buoys; beyond it the river is a protected area for the apron (Zingel asper), an endangered fish. The gorge is closed to boats by a buoy line when the wind exceeds 28 km/h. Jumping from cliffs and bridges is banned, and so are scuba diving and freediving (the water is turbid). Swimming and boating are banned in the buoyed exclusion zones around the dam and the water intake. Thermal-engine boats are banned on the lake. No fires or stoves; no wild camping on the shore. Dogs must be on a lead on the beach and are not allowed in the supervised swimming zone.
