About Newcastle City Baths Turkish Baths
The baths and the City Hall beside them form one Grade II listed building, a neo-Georgian design by Nicholas and Dixon-Spain with a colonnaded entrance on Northumberland Road. The listing picks out the Turkish bath for its stone Doric pilasters, mahogany-panelled changing rooms and doors, an inlaid floor and a circular glazed dome set in a coffered ceiling. It describes the steam room with a groin-vaulted ceiling holding three circular domes, and marble slabs. Behind the building rises a tall, tapering octagonal brick chimney.
