About Soak Seaweed Baths

The idea came from a visit to the seaweed baths at Enniscrone in County Sligo, and the operator calls the bathhouse the rebirth of a custom this part of Ireland had long forgotten. Three treatment rooms were added in 2008, and a tea room serving scones and tray bakes in 2009. For each bath a bucket of freshly picked seaweed is washed in fresh water and scalded in seawater; it is never reused, and afterwards it goes to a local farmer as fertiliser, or home with you for the garden if you ask. Every bathroom is wired for sound, and the operator suggests bringing your own CD.
