About Terme Šmarješke Toplice

The wooden pool above the thermal spring dates from the late 18th century, built of oak planks over a floor of spruce boards. In the early 20th century it was named Mary's Bath after Queen Mary, wife of King Alexander of Yugoslavia, and the spring flows through it so steadily that its water is completely replaced within hours. The two indoor pools are named Aleksander and Peter. The spa had its great period between the two world wars, when the Novo Mesto doctor Viktor Gregorić bought the estate and ran it. A small lake in the spa park holds Indian lotus.
