About MONDORF Domaine Thermal (Wellness & piscine thermale)
The water turned up during a hunt for rock salt: in 1841 the Saxon driller Karl-Gotthelf Kind was hired to search under Luxembourg, and after dry holes at Cessange, Echternach and Bech-sous-Perl he drilled at Mondorf, where a little salty water seeped from the ground. The Kind spring was struck in 1846 at 730 m, a depth the operator calls a European record until 1871. Two more wells followed, Marie-Adélaïde in 1913 and Michel Lucius in 1979. Around the baths lies a thermal park of more than 45 hectares laid out in 1886 by the French landscape designer Edouard André, crossed by the Gander, the small river that marks the border with France.
