Grotta Giusti

A cave discovered in 1849 runs for over 200 metres beneath the resort in three sections at 28 to 34 °C, ending at an underground lake of 36 °C water; the operator says Giuseppe Verdi called it the eighth wonder of the world. Spring water at 34 °C, rich in bicarbonate, sulphate, calcium and magnesium, fills a 750 m² outdoor pool with 40 hydro-massage stations and a waterfall.

About Grotta Giusti

The resort began as the 19th-century country villa of the family of the poet Giuseppe Giusti, set in a park of old trees. Below it, the cave's three sections are named Paradiso, Purgatorio and Inferno, and between stalactites and stalagmites the rock vaults open into rooms where guests stop for a natural steam bath. The warm lake at the far end is called Limbo. Giuseppe Garibaldi and the painter Pietro Annigoni are among the visitors the operator names.
