About ThermaSalina (Thermes de Salins-les-Bains)

Some 200 million years ago a sea covered this part of the Jura, and as it dried out it left a bed of rock salt that was slowly buried under sediment. Faults opened when the Alps were folded let water seep down and run through that salt, which is where the brine here gets its sodium chloride and its potassium, magnesium and calcium. The thermes date from 1854. From the pool, the big windows look out over greenery and the pink roofs of old Salins.
