About Les Bains d'Evahona
The César and Rocher springs start as rain that soaks into the gneiss plateaus east of the town and gains its heat and minerals deep underground, and the catchment still in use is of ancient origin. Roman baths were built over the springs from the end of the 1st century, burned in the late 3rd, and their remains were listed as a historic monument in 1840. The god Ivaos is known from a Roman legionary's inscription on the handle of a bronze dish found in the ruins around 1840. Window lintels on the park side of the bath building and a beam of the metal roof frame came from Gustave Eiffel's Tardes viaduct, whose deck collapsed in a storm in January 1884.
