Swimming in Preveli

Preveli is on Crete's south coast, about 24 km south of Rethymno, where the Kourtaliotis river reaches the Libyan Sea. The beach listed here lies below Preveli Monastery, with a palm grove along the river behind the sand. Upstream, about 5 km north, the river runs through the Kourtaliotiko gorge between cliffs up to 600 m high.
