Navagio (Shipwreck Beach)

A sand cove under steep cliffs on the north-west coast of Zakynthos, with the wreck of the freighter Panagiotis, which ran aground in 1980, lying on the beach. There is no way down by land: boats come from Zakynthos Town and Porto Vromi.

Getting in

Access
The cove has no land access: the municipality says it is reached only from the sea, by boats from Zakynthos Town and Porto Vromi. After rockfalls on 13 September and 26 October 2018, the port authority and then joint ministerial decisions banned landing on the beach and swimming in the bay every season from 2018 to 31 October 2026, with boats kept 50 m off the shore and viewing allowed only from the platform on the cliff top.
