About Terme Pompeo
A manuscript by Cialino from 1690 credits Flavia Domitilla, niece of the emperor Vespasian, with building the first bath house at Ferentino. In 1854 Ambrogio Pompeo, a businessman from the town, set out to gather the scattered springs into one establishment, and his family still owns the building. As visitor numbers grew, the Papal government signed a contract for 100 baths a day for its soldiers, and in 1874 the physician Guido Baccelli published a treatise on the acidulous sulfur waters of Ferentino. After the Second World War, Emilio Pompeo's wife, Marianna Mobilj Carrara, enlarged the building now called the Antiche Terme, adding what the family calls the province's first thermal pool.
