About Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme

City architect August O. Pauly built the bath between 1910 and 1913 on the site of the old Zum Adler bathhouse, modelled on the baths of antiquity, and it is fed by the Adlerquelle, which rises at about 64.6 °C. The tepidarium and sudatorium keep their original coloured glazed tiles from the workshop of Josef Vinecký, a pupil of Henry van de Velde, and are heated partly by radiators and partly in the Roman way, through hypocausts under the tiled floor. In the swimming hall, painted figures on the narrow window piers seem to carry the cornice above five metres of glazed wall. A clinic moved into the building in 1962 and the bath shrank; it was restored and enlarged again in 1998 and 1999.
