carpesol Spa Therme

The carpesol sits in Bad Rothenfelde, where brine was pumped for salt from 1724 until the saltworks closed in 1972; of its pools under a glass dome and outdoors, two take local natural brine at 3 % and 12 %. Above the baths are two sauna floors, a Roman-Irish ritual with ten stations on the first and a panorama sauna on the second.

About carpesol Spa Therme

The operator reads the name as 'use the salt'. Its brine comes from a Zechstein salt dome about 3,500 m below the woods of the Kleiner Berg, where spring water slowly dissolved the crystals, and from 1826 the town used it as a cure as well as for salt. The glass dome over the thermal pool is lit in changing colours once dusk falls. Several saunas are named after places in the Teutoburg Forest: the outdoor Velmers after a lookout platform, the Sparren after Bielefeld's Sparrenburg and the Extern after the Externsteine rocks.
