About Arctic Sauna World
The saunas take their names from Finnish folklore and language. Ukko, king of the gods and master of thunder, gets the smoke sauna, where the operator suggests pouring water gently on one spot of the stove; Tapio, the antlered king of the forest, gets the room whose four stoves are named North, East, South and West. Vellamo, named after the goddess of lakes and rivers, looks out over Lake Jerisjärvi while a bowl above the stove drips water onto it. Repo is an old Finnish word for fox, after revontulet, 'fox fires', the Finnish name for the Northern Lights, and Hiisi is a warm room with no stove at all.
