About Cala Rossa
Favignana is largely built of tufa, a soft rock quarried for building, and deep quarries, some dug by hand and some formed where the rock collapsed, open along its lanes. The Grotte del Bue Marino sea caves lie near Cala Rossa, where the regional tourist board says reaching the water means climbing over tufa blocks.
